Head covering

If you mean “what percentage of Jewish women have short/shaved hair?”, there is no reliable worldwide percentage. The available surveys generally measure head covering, not hair length.

For the Haredi population, however, a 2024 survey found:

52% of Haredi women surveyed said they shave the hair beneath their wig.

This practice is particularly associated with some Hasidic communities, rather than Judaism as a whole. Oxford's research describes head-shaving as customary in certain Hungarian and Galician Hasidic communities.

Among Israeli Jewish women overall, 81% reported no traditional head covering in public, while among Haredi women about 50% reported wearing a wig.

So, **52% is a reasonable figure for “shave the hair underneath the wig” among the surveyed Haredi women, but it should NOT be interpreted as 52% of all Jewish women worldwide.**
