Most daughters

If by “most daughters” you mean the country where the largest number of baby girls are born, the answer is India.

🇮🇳 India: about 23.1 million births in 2025 overall.

Since roughly 48–49% of births are female, that works out to approximately 11.1–11.3 million daughters born in India in one year.

🇨🇳 China is second, with about 8.7 million total births in 2025.

🇳🇬 Nigeria is third, with about 7.6 million births.

So, India has the most daughters born each year in absolute numbers.

If you meant “which nation has the largest number of daughters currently living”, that's a slightly different calculation—and I can rank the top 20 countries by number of females/girls.

Covrrheads

Yes. But I want to make one correction to the earlier estimate: there is no UN statistic for “percentage of women who cover their heads.” So the continent figures below are modeled estimates, not measured census figures. The UN provides the female population; surveys such as Pew provide head-covering rates for particular countries/religions.  Using the latest UN population framework and available survey evidence, I would estimate the following for women aged 18+ who routinely cover their head/hair in public: Continent Approx. female population Estimated % routinely covering Estimated women covering Estimated women not routinely covering 🌏 Asia ~2.3 billion 30–40% ~690–920 million ~1.38–1.61 billion 🌍 Africa ~760 million 30–40% ~230–300 million ~460–530 million 🇪🇺 Europe ~390 million 5–10% ~20–40 million ~350–370 million 🌎 North America ~320 million 5–10% ~16–32 million ~288–304 million 🌎 South America ~220 million 3–7% ~7–15 million ~205–213 million 🌊 Oceania ~24 milli...

Ancient jewish covering

Yes. Ancient Jewish women—particularly married women—did cover their hair, and the practice is demonstrably ancient. But we should distinguish when the practice existed from when Jewish law formally defined it as an obligation. A rough historical timeline Period Evidence for women's head covering Biblical period (~1000–500 BCE) Evidence is suggestive but not conclusive that all married women routinely covered their hair. Biblical passages mention women with covered heads, but they don't establish a universal rule. Second Temple period (~516 BCE–70 CE) Head covering appears to have been a recognized aspect of female modesty, but the evidence is incomplete and practices probably varied. Mishnah (~200 CE) Clear evidence: Mishnah Ketubot 7:6 says a married woman going out with her head uncovered violated dat Yehudit—accepted Jewish women's practice.  Talmud (~300–600 CE) The Babylonian Talmud goes further, arguing from Numbers 5:18 that a married woman's hair covering has ...

Covering

Yes. The key is to distinguish religious groups from geographical populations. There is no single worldwide survey asking every woman in every continent whether she covers her head, so a precise global ranking would be misleading. The best comparable figures I found are: Population Approx. % of women who cover their head/hair What the figure represents 🇮🇳 Indian women overall 61% Indian women who cover their heads outside the home 🇮🇳 Indian Muslim women 89% Cover their heads outside the home 🇮🇳 Indian Hindu women 59% Cover their heads outside the home ✡️ Israeli Jewish women 19% Wear a wig, snood, scarf or hat in public ✡️ Israeli married Jewish women 25% Any traditional head covering ✡️ Israeli Haredi women ~93% Any head covering (the survey categories total about 93%) ✡️ Married Haredi women 99% Any head covering ✡️ Israeli Dati women 62% Any head covering ☪️ U.S. Muslim women 43% Always or most of the time wearing hijab 🌍 African women overall No reliable continental % ...
